They chose the new direction of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences at UJED

Elections began on Friday to renew the direction of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences of the University of Juárez del Estado de Durango (UJED) Gomez Palacio Campus for the period from August 17, 2024 to August 16, 2030. One candidate of the unit is Doctor of Biomedical Sciences, Edgar Héctor Olivas Calderón, whose campaign was under Slogan: “United for the college we want.”

Elections will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., with confirmation in standing session by the Teaching Advisory Board convened to select the director.

Juan José Martínez García, current director of the college, reported that the day had passed quietly and that about 950 people were expected to participate in this electoral process, including approximately 800 students, 90 teachers and 60 administrative workers. He said that once the voting time ends, they will begin counting the votes and writing their minutes.

He added: “We hope that the process will continue calmly and that we will eventually have the opportunity to determine who will remain as the new director.”

To obtain the right to vote, you must be a tenured academic (with an appointment to an academic unit) with at least one year’s seniority in that capacity, be an administrative worker with at least one year’s seniority in the College and be a student duly registered and enrolled during College election period. Voters’ votes will be distributed according to the following weighting: 65% for academics, 30% for students, and 5% for administrative employees.
