Diaz also had an RBI double with a bunt during a two-run seventh inning, and Tampa Bay took a 5-4 lead.
The Rays have a seven-and-a-half-game lead over Seattle and Toronto in the race for the first wild-card spot in the American League playoffs. Tampa Bay started the day four games behind Baltimore, the leader of the Eastern Conference, while Seattle is half a game behind Houston, the leader of the West.
Colin Bucci (11-3) finished off a perfect ninth inning to earn the victory.
Dominican Julio Rodriguez hit his 29th home run of the season, the highest of his career. He is one away from joining Alex Rodriguez as the only Mariners to have 30 home runs and 30 steals in the same season.
