The players of France and Barcelona were criticized in the networks because of a video clip in which they mocked the staff of a hotel in Japan.
The video, recorded by Dembélé, circulated on the networks over the weekend and shows both players laughing at a group of technicians trying to fix something in a hotel room.
The content was criticized on social media and players from France apologized on Monday for their behaviour.
“Hello everyone, in the past few days a special video dating back to 2019 has been circulating on social media,” Dembele wrote on Instagram.
“Everything happened in Japan, but it could have happened anywhere on the planet and I would have used the same expression, so it was not my intention to refer to any community. I simply use that kind of expression with my friends regardless of their origins. It has been posted This video is made public, and I understand that I may offend the people present in the photos and for that I would like to sincerely apologize to them.”
On the other hand, his Barcelona partner, Griezmann, wrote about the video on Twitter; I have always been against all forms of discrimination.”
“In recent days, some people have wanted to describe me as someone I am not. I strongly reject the accusations against me and am sorry if I offended any of my Japanese friends.”
There was no confirmation from Barcelona, the Spanish federation or the French about a possible penalty for the players.
Both were with the France national team at Euro 2020. Dembele’s participation was cut short due to injury, while Griezmann played until Didier Deschamps’ men were eliminated on penalties by Switzerland in the Round of 16.
