SAN LUIS – Miguel Cabrera and Robbie Grossman scored consecutive runs to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday.
Two days after scoring his 500 on home ground, he hit the Cabrera 501. He found a slither from the start Jack Flaherty at 79 mph and put the ball upstairs from the left field runway, known as Big Mac Land, in the third inning.
The ball landed 423 feet off the home plate, making the Venezuelan player his second longest home run so far this season.
Cardinals Flaherty retired immediately (9-2) due to a stiffness problem in his right shoulder. In two rounds, Flaherty allowed four runs and the same number of hits, walking three times in 46 efforts.
His throwing speed dropped sharply after the first half.
The 25-year-old missed 60 games, from June 1 to August 12, with a left slashed strain. He has only allowed two runs in 12 runs in two rounds since he was dropped from the handicap list.
Casey Mize (7-6) took the win by covering five goal-free rounds.
For the Tigers, Venezuelan Cabrera 3-2 with a run to record and RBI Harold Castro 4-1 with a run, Victor Reyes 1-0. Dominican Gamer Candelario 3-1 in one game.
For Cardinals, Puerto Rican Yadier Molina 4-1. Venezuela’s Jose Rondon 1-0. Panamanian Edmundo Sosa without an official role, but with one record.
