San Juan once again looked at the world Cruise shipshosting the baptism of the new luxury yacht Emerald Sakarafrom Emerald Cruises.
The yacht was christened on December 2, at an event attended by the cruise company’s senior executives, including Glenn Morrone, founder and chairman of Scenic Group, and Ken Mustafa, US director. They were joined by Kelly Craighead, the ship’s godmother, and president and CEO of the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
Joining the visiting group for the event, held at Pier 4, were local travel agents and tourism managers, such as Brad Dean, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico; Christian Trinidad De Jesus, Deputy Executive Director of the Port Authority and Crystal J. Bell, Director of Air and Sea Access for Puerto Rico Tourism.
Craighead, whose organization represents dozens of cruise lines and river cruise lines and a network of more than 75,000 members, expressed gratitude at being chosen as godmother of the ship, on which the traditional champagne bottle was broken to make the moment official. “The stunning luxury of Emerald Sakara, complemented by Emerald Cruises’ commitment to environmentally responsible tourism, embodies CLIA’s call for sustainable tourism and the preservation of cruise destinations around the world for generations to come,” said the company, CLIA President.
Exclusively for 100 passengers

It has 50 luxury cabins and suites, ranging in size from 185 to 1,185 square feet. The yacht also includes a marine platform, which provides various marine sports options for travelers, such as kayaks, diving equipment, and a large diving board.
The luxury yacht will make several trips with San Juan as its home port, as part of its inaugural winter season. In addition to visiting several Caribbean islands, it stops in Vieques and Culebra.
Morrone noted that what makes Scenic Group unique, both in its river and offshore boats, is that it is intimately involved in every aspect of the construction process, from concept to design to staffing. The ship has the latest technologies and systems that protect the environment, in line with the company’s philosophy.
Sakara is the twin of Emerald Azura, which debuted in March 2022. Both offer cruises to the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Adriatic, Indian Ocean and Red Sea. These luxury yachts are part of the evolution of Emerald Cruises, which already has eight river ships in Europe and one on the Mekong River in Asia. Along with Scenic Cruises and other businesses, it is part of the Scenic Group.
