Darryl Hall obtains a restraining order against John Oates amid a secret lawsuit

(CNN) — Darryl Hall filed a lawsuit against his former bandmate John Oates in Nashville Chancery Court on Thursday, according to court records.

The two musicians are best known as members of the rock duo of the same name Hall and Oateswhich had huge success in the early 1980s with songs like “Private Eyes” and “Maneater.”

Court records show Hall’s lawsuit against Oates as an individual and Oates’ fund is listed as a “contract/debt” dispute, but details of the case are sealed.

Last Friday, the court granted Hall’s request for a temporary restraining order that would take effect on November 30, records show.

Since the case is largely closed, the nature of the restraining order is unclear. Such an order is usually issued in a commercial dispute to prevent one party from harming the economic interests of the other.

CNN has reached out to representatives and attorneys for Hall and Oates for more information.

Hall and Oates met in the 1960s in Philadelphia and, according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, had 29 hits between 1976 and 1990.

“His indelible songs include the ethereal chorus of ‘I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do)’; the flowing rhythm and harmonies of ‘Kiss on My List’; and the weightless rhythmic flow and interplay of ‘Maneater’ vocals.”; And the haunting, heartbreaking chorus of “She’s Gone.” Park Buterbaugh wrote. To induct Hall & Oates into the Hall of Fame in 2014.
