MIAMI, Florida – Drivers in Key Biscayne and the surrounding areas of downtown Miami are experiencing significant delays due to road closures. A road rehabilitation project. Motorists were reportedly stranded for hours.
Beginning Sunday, April 14, these closures are scheduled to extend for approximately two months. This situation has created significant difficulties for travelers from the island, experiencing considerable delays in their journeys.
According to the Florida Department of Transportation, contractors will construct the westbound SR 913/Rickenbacker Causeway flyover bridge, southbound SR 5/US 1/South Dixie Highway and northbound SR 9A/I-95. The closure is due to repair work on the concrete pavement on the upper deck of the bridge. While improvements to road infrastructure are necessary, these works have created inconvenience for Key Biscayne residents and visitors.
Despite the delays, eastbound traffic will not be affected by the closures, and access to SE/SW 26 Road, Brickell Avenue and South Miami Avenue will be maintained, according to information provided by FDOT. Additionally, the department has made available a detailed map of closures and detours, making navigation easier for those affected by these conditions.
Overnight Miami Police Department spokesman Michael Vega spoke about the situation.
“We are working on a plan to help traffic coming out of Rickenbacker. We are not aware of any incidents or incidents. It appears that the ramp to I-95 is closed due to work, causing traffic congestion. We are evaluating the issue and trying to help,” he told Telemudo 51. said in the statement.
