(CNN) — On Monday night, four people were injured when a gunman opened fire at a Walmart near Dayton, Ohio.
The suspect, described only as a man, entered the store around 8:35 p.m. and shot and killed four people, police said. Beavercreek Police . He died of an apparent gunshot wound, according to the department.
“No shots were fired by responding police officers,” the Beavercreek Police Department said in a statement. Social media post.
The victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment, Capt. Scott Molnar said at a news conference Monday. No information was available on their conditions.
Police have not identified the suspect, and it’s unclear if he knew any of the victims at the store in Beavercreek, a suburb east of Dayton.
“We are heartbroken by what happened at our Beavercreek, Ohio store,” a Walmart spokesperson said in a statement to CNN. “This remains a developing situation and we are working closely with investigators.”
The FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation were investigating the shooting Monday night.
