Bank of America will close several of its banks in the United States starting in January 2024

Bank of America branches closing in January 2024: Complete list
Bank of America is closing several branches heading into next year. Below is the complete list of locations that will close during January 2024.

Through 2023, Bank of America has closed more than 100 branches and is preparing to close more locations next year, starting in January.

The rise of online banking is one of the reasons that led to these closures. In recent years, competition has increased significantly for banks that provide services exclusively online. In addition, there has been a decline in transactions taking place in physical branches, in response to the growing demand for digital and remote banking experiences.

For many banking institutions, maintaining certain branches is no longer profitable and represents a high cost, as more and more transactions are carried out outside them. Therefore, banks have sought to adapt to the changing needs of their customers.

Banks must notify the OCC of upcoming closures

When banks want to close a branch, they must notify the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) at least 90 days before the closing date. This notification is sent through the Branch Early Closing Notice.

Each closing is recorded in a weekly bulletin available on the OCC’s web portal. According to bulletins dated December 2 and 9, Bank of America closed six branches this month.
