Santo Domingo, May 6.- The President of the Dominican Republic, Luis Abinador, will receive the President’s Award for Leadership of the Americas presented by the Council of the Americas and will participate as a speaker at the 54th Annual Washington Conference of the Americas. This was announced by the Presidency on Monday.
The award, which will be presented on Wednesday May 8 at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, recognizes the work of the Dominican President to promote regional security, support and fight for democracy. Against corruption since assuming the presidency in 2020.
The President’s Award for Leadership in America is presented to democratically elected officials who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to the Western Hemisphere.
Other leaders in the region have received this recognition in the past, including Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) in 2022; Bill Cassidy, United States Senator, in 2021; and Marco Rubio, United States Senator, in 2019.
The annual Washington Conference on the Americas is the region’s premier event, where every year top officials speak on topics such as trade, democracy, energy and more.
It also gives participants the opportunity to interact with business and political leaders, members of the diplomatic community, and distinguished guests from across the hemisphere.
The President will travel to Washington with First Lady Raquel Arbaje; Foreign Ministers, Roberto Alvarez; of the Treasury, Jose Manuel Vicente, and of the Economy, Pavel Issa and their assistants, and with them the Dominican ambassador in Washington, Sonia Guzman.EFE
