“I don’t understand, Federico. (Patricio) Lustau and (Mauro) Vigliano are 46, like me, and they will continue to direct at international level,” they assured Pitana, who also officiated the 2018 World Cup final in Russia.
Vigliano will now be responsible for the video assistant referee only, while Lustau will remain a field judge.

Clarin concludes by saying that there is a history of referees not appointed by their countries but with international action: Pericles Basul Cortez, of Brazil, who was in the VAR for the game between Junior of Barranquilla and Libertad of Paraguay, although not registered by the CBF.
