Dr. Miguel Kiwi, National Science Award winner, gives his opinion on nanoscience
In the last episode of the “Nanos a la Obra” program of digital media CooperativaCiencia, broadcast on October 28, Dr. Miguel Kiwi, 2007 National Science Laureate, Academician of the Department of Physics, Faculty of Sciences of the University Dr. Dora Altbeer, 2019 National Science Laureate, from Chile, spoke about the key role of nanoscience in fields such as medicine, energy and the environment.
With a distinguished international career, Dr. Kiwi highlighted how, despite funding challenges, Chile has managed to remain competitive and contribute on the global stage.
“The future of nanotechnology in medicine is huge,” Dr. Kiwi commented, betting on more effective and less invasive treatments for complex diseases. Furthermore, he highlighted the value of basic research for achieving advances that remain unimaginable today.
The Center for the Development of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (CEDENNA) is a fundamental pillar of this discipline in Chile, facilitating international cooperation and training new generations of scientists. Our academics stressed the importance of this joint work to preserve national talent at the level of global science.
With an invitation to young people, especially women, Dr. Kiwi invited them to join science as a career of discovery and personal satisfaction, and an opportunity to contribute to Chile’s future!
